The erstwhile Department of Limnology and Fisheries, Rajasthan College of Agriculture was upgraded to the status of College of Fisheries by the Board of Management of the MPUAT in its meeting held on 15th November, 2003. The first batch of BFSc was admitted in 2004. Approval from the Government of Rajasthan for establishment of College was received in 2010 and new batches of UG and PG were admitted for session 2010-2011. The building of College of Fisheries is situated on Guru Govind Singh Marg on the main road from Surajpole to Rana Pratap Nagar railway station.

Mission:

College of Fisheries, MPUAT, Udaipur committed to provide quality education in fisheries to undergraduate and post-graduate students through teaching and research with special emphasis on practical/experiential learning.

Vision:

  • To develop skilled and technically qualified human resources to cater the need of nutritional security, employment generation, scientific management and enhancement of innovation in Fisheries sector.
  • Introduction of modern teaching methods with major emphasis on experiential learning.
  • Initiation of Diploma and Certificate courses in fish production, breeding of ornamental fish, value addition to fish products etc.

Mandate:

  • Excellence in teaching, research and extension incorporating sustainable and diversified fresh water aquaculture good practices.
  • To make consolidated efforts in fisheries education up-gradation through skillful learning with appropriate linkages.

Objectives:

  • To provide professional and quality education in the field of Fisheries.
  • To enhance knowledge in the field of fisheries and related aspects through teaching, research and extension.
  • To provide scientific information regarding exploitation and management of fisheries resources in the state and country.
  • To make available technically qualified professionals to manage, conserve and develop diversified fisheries resources in the country.

Community Service:

  • Developing action plan for implementation of code of conduct for responsible fisheries
  • Increasing awareness on conservation, biodiversity and endangered species
  • Developing community based enterprises for conservation and development.
  • Producing skilled fishers in the tribal sub-plan area of Rajasthan.

Human Resource Development:

  • Effort will be made to increase the staff strength from the present 06 to 12 which helps to meet mandate standards in teaching, research and extension.
  • “Inbreeding” will be avoided by suitably formulating guidelines not to allow a student to get all 3 degrees from one institute.
  • Alumni interaction will be promoted.
